Welcome to the Gallery-by-the-Sea website featuring the work of artist Leo Brooks. We can be found physically now at 399 Glenmere Road in Port Clyde - not too far from where the original Gallery-by-the- Sea sold Leo’s vibrant art work for fifteen years. One of the great things about technology is that we can continue to show Leo’s work through the website you are right now looking at. It also means that via the internet we can run a four season gallery and not be limited to the lovely, but decidedly short-lived, Maine summer season.

Still, if you are one of those hands-on people who have to have the work directly in front of them when perusing art, “live” work is still available to look at in our home in Port Clyde; also at The Greenhut Gallery on Middle Street in Portland, Maine. In addition the Mars Hall Gallery in Tenants Harbor (midcoast Maine) is opening an exhibition of Leo’s work beginning July 15th, 2009.

Moving back to our website you can now view over sixty images of watercolor painting by Leo Brooks (1909-1993) through the internet. Printed work on our website includes a biography of the artist and other related articles on Brooks’ colorful and energetic style; also details of his equally colorful and interesting life.

You will also find on our website a new article on Leo and his life just out in the August 2009 issue of Down East Magazine written by Maine art writer and critic Edgar Allen Beem.
This story joins the The Monhegan Art of Leo Brooks in the Winter 2005 issue of Maine Boats and Harbors, written by Maine art expert and writer, Carl Little. Beautifully produced color images of Leo’s work accompany both articles.

Please enjoy our new updated website. And - if you find yourself in Maine during any time of the year we are available by appointment 207-372-8280) at 399 Glenmere Road, Port Clyde (January, February and March excepted) or at smacvane@aol.com.
